The next transatlantic decade
In-conversation with US Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Peter Mandelson, Chairman of Global Counsel.

During this wide-ranging conversation, Senator Shaheen, Chair of the United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations (SCFR) Europe and Regional Security Cooperation Subcommittee, will discuss how the US, EU and UK can respond to the issues that will shape the future of the transatlantic relationship, in addition to providing her thoughts on the domestic policy outlook. She will discuss matters including:

- The ongoing crisis in Afghanistan and how it will impact the longer-term outlook for the transatlantic relationship, US diplomatic capability and credibility as an international partner;

- What the US makes of the EU’s push for its own open strategic autonomy;

- How the EU and the US should deal with areas of shared but differing interests: the EU/Russian neighbourhood and China, including the Comprehensive Agreement on Investment (CAI) between the EU and China;

- What does the US make of the EU’s search for its own open strategic autonomy? And what is next for the UK and US post-Brexit including recent developments such as AUKUS?
